Being the Mom

School has been out for one whole week here. And I have made my goals to be a fun, awesome, attentive Mom this summer. As opposed to being the slacker Mom I normally am. This week I have taught them art, and piano. We have made bread. We have played outside. We have read. We have laughed. We have swam. We have cleaned. We have folded lots of laundry. We have giggled. We have had fun. We have been happy! We have gotten along. We have had a terrific week.

Until today. Today I have been distracted and busy. Today I have had a horrible headache. Today my kids threw bottles of sealed finger paints at each other. (Thankfully they didn't explode.) Today I see the blessings of all of the fun busy activities we have been doing. They are happier, I am happier. And being the Mom is much more fun when we are all happy. When they are both in their rooms in timeout, it's not too fun.

And next week I will be a good busy Mom again. I can't be a slacker Mom and a happy Mom. They don't mesh well together. Although being the slacker Mom is much easier, and I think I am pretty good at it. But it is time to perfect the busy Mom.

Children love to do things together, no matter what it is, and I notice it everyday, it takes longer to do dishes or laundry but if I let my oldest "help" me with the task, we are both happier.

When I don't feel well, I want to take care of things fast and I don't have the energy to clen up after he has helped me and the difference is huge, everything becomes more difficult, and there we go with the temper tantrums and time outs.

I guess it's normal, some days the energy just isn't there, and the kids feed off of it.

You are doing a wonderful job as a mom and you have such cute kids.
I wish I had the energy to make so much bread in one day, even with the bread machine, I can't seem to make the time.

Lately I am spending my entire mornings holding a garden hose on the mist position and letting the kids playing in the water before the day gets too hot. :)

We have the same thing at my house. I am inspired by you Lee and hope that we can both find the energy to be the fun, awesome, attentive moms we want to be... most of the time. ;)

I always have this picture in my head of what kind of summer I want to have with my kids, but it seems like most of the time everyone is fighting. But those few precious moments when we're not & we have a wonderful time together make it all worth it! Have a great summer!
